About

Welcome to Mealinda!

I’m Amy Gorin, MS, RDN, a nationally recognized, award-winning registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), media personality, spokesperson, media coach, and writer in Stamford, CT.

That’s about one hour outside of New York City. I run two businesses, Plant Based with Amy, and Master the Media.

As a longtime vegetarian and now pescatarian RDN, my focus is in inclusive plant-based eating.

My goal is to get everyone eating more plants—no matter if you’re vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian, or just plant curious! I want to make plant-based eating easy for you.

I’m a regular contributor to the media and am one of the most-quoted media dietitians in the country.

I’ve completed and written more than 2,000 combined media interviews and freelance articles for top-tier media outlets.

Eating on a budget doesn’t have to mean Ramen every day.

With a history in Nutritional Science, I wasn’t okay with resorting to ramen noodles or canned beans every night in order to cut my grocery bill. While I do eat those things on occasion, variety is the spice of life! I made it my mission to find ways to keep my diet well rounded and satisfying, while also being budget-friendly. In my recipe collection you’ll find a little bit for everyone, from vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free recipes, to one-pot recipes, global flavors, and even classic comfort foods like pasta and desserts.

Stick to the principles.

Over time, and with a lot of practice, I’ve developed six principles that help me keep my grocery budget low and reduce waste in the kitchen. So no matter what your food style is, practicing these principles will help you get your budget back in control.

Cooking is a learned skill and we all need to start somewhere! I’ve tried to take the intimidation out of learning to cook at home with step by step photos in every recipe, helpful guides like Pantry Staples, Kitchen Basics, 10 Tips for Recipe Success, and a How-To series to help with different techniques or money saving kitchen tips.

Looking for Budget Friendly Meal Prep?

One of the hardest parts of switching to homemade meals is figuring out what to cook or which recipes can be paired to make a full meal. I’ve got you covered! Since portion control is a huge part of staying on budget, I often employ the “meal prep” method. Cooking meals ahead of time and portioning them out for the days ahead helps makes the most use of your time, food, and money. You can find my full collection of Budget-Friendly Meal Prep Ideas here.

Our History

Budget Bytes was born in 2009 when founder, Beth Moncel, was drowning in student loan debt and trying to make ends meet on a meager hourly wage. She began calculating down to the penny everything she was spending on food. After a few quick calculations, Beth started noticing some patterns… Some ingredients were budget busters and some were budget savers! So she started to strategically craft recipes, tweaking the ratios of budget-savers and budget-busters, always making sure to use simple ingredients that would also leave her satisfied. Being the nerdy number cruncher she is, Beth couldn’t wait to share the recipes with the world.

Since the launch of BudgetBytes.com, Budget Bytes has been teaching people all around the world how to cook with their simple recipes and step-by-step photo instructions. We now have a team of recipe creators, social media masters, and techy number crunchers to keep the budget recipes flowing! You can find our print book at your nearest book store, our mobile app in the App store, or come visit us on every major social media platform. We hope you stick around, explore our extensive recipe archives, and whip up something delicious!
